The Salt Pilates “Stokely Method” is a contemporary Pilates style that emphasizes intensity through challenging, well-choreographed classes that engage the entire body. The “Stokely Method” was developed by our studio & used to train all of our instructors. Our studio works to standardize all classes through this training program to ensure our clients get the same quality of classes for each class they attend.
The goal of the Salt Pilates training program is to develop excellent Pilates Instructors. Salt Pilates wants graduates of the program to understand how to develop a well-rounded class filled with a smooth, intense flow while delivering strong articulation skills that leave the client with an excellent workout.
WHAT IS THE CERTIFICATION FOR?
The certification program prepares future instructors to teach well-prepared and articulated Pilates reformer classes successfully. Some programs separate the reformer certification process into a number of different programs (i.e., Reformer 1/Reformer 2 / Reformer 3, etc.) This program will be an all-inclusive training program of all movements taught on the reformer during the 6 scheduled modules.
WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS TO TAKE THE PROGRAM?
While Pilates is for everyone, being an instructor may not be. A good instructor needs to have a love for Pilates, great self-body awareness, a strong mind-body connection, the ability to recognize form in others, and patience while articulating body movement to a large class of clients. We don’t expect you to have all of the listed above from the onset. It is through the program that we are looking for you to develop these qualities/skills. Individuals who are already in the fitness industry, have a dance/yoga/gymnastics background, are athletic with great body control, or are in the field of teaching tend to excel in the program.
WHAT IS THE STYLE/OBJECTIVE OF THE PROGRAM?
The Salt Pilates "Stokely Method" addresses the basics of anatomy that are necessary to teach Pilates safely. Some programs are geared towards more of a physical therapy field of education. Salt Pilates approaches certification with the goal of developing excellent Pilates instructors. If your interest in the program is geared more toward anatomy than instruction, this program may not be a good fit for you. Salt Pilates wants graduates of the program to understand how to develop a well-rounded choreographed class while delivering strong articulation skills that leaves the client with an excellent workout.
WHAT IS THE COST OF THE PROGRAM?
The program is priced at $4500 (discounted at $3700 until November 1st). There will be no other hidden fees assessed. Our instructors are well compensated and can easily recoup their investment within a couple of months of instruction, depending upon hours worked.
Additionally, we are currently offering a financial incentive for instructors who go through the training program and consistently teach for the studio. After 1 full year of teaching, instructors will be compensated a $1000 bonus. After 2 full years of teaching, instructors will be compensated an additional $1000.
IS THERE A PAYMENT PLAN?
If finances are an issue, we will set up a payment plan to work around your needs. Those on a payment plan will not receive the discounted rate of $3700. An initial deposit of $2000 will be required to begin the program. The final payment will need to be made before the 3rd scheduled module. Payments are non-refundable 1 week prior to the start date of the program. If you register for the program and are unable to complete the modules, you can complete them during our next scheduled certification program.
WHAT DOES THE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM INCLUDE WITH MY REGISTRATION FEE?
The certification fee will pay for all course materials, study guides, free access to the Salt Pilates studio during off hours to practice on your own or teach friends & family (scheduled in advance with Salt Pilates), and 100 group classes (classes expire June 1st, 2024). All benefits are available from the start of the 6 modules until May 1, 2024. After June 1, 2024, you will no longer have the above benefits, and access to the studio will no longer be available.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM?
Our training program will be taught over the course of 6 separate modules.
November 18th, December 2nd, 9th &16th, January 6th, 20th, 27th. The module sessions will run from 1:00-5:00.
Your “final exam” will be separated into 2 portions and administered on 2 separate dates. The first is an exam with multiple-choice questions, fill-in-the-blanks, & short essay questions. This exam can be taken at any point after the completion of all 6 modules. The second portion of the final exam is a detailed essay question that will be scheduled after the completion of all of your certification hours. You must pass both exams with a grade of 80% or better.
The certification hours include 100 teaching hours (60 practice teaching, 40 assistant teaching), 50 observation hours, and 100 self-practice hours. We encourage you to begin collecting hours at the start of the program. Once you have completed your hours, you are expected to return for your “final test‐out.” Your final test-out will involve successfully teaching a beginning class, an intermediate class, and an advanced class to a group of clients selected by Salt Pilates.
WHAT DO THE TEACHING HOUR REQUIREMENTS ENTAIL?
The Salt Pilates certification requires a total of 100 logged teaching hours to qualify for the certification. Immediately upon starting the program, we highly encourage you to begin practicing with family, friends, and colleagues in the program (without compensation). There is no better way to learn how to teach than practice. We will require you to log 60 teaching hours as well as 40 assistant teaching hours. Assistant teaching hours involve teaching every taught move alongside a Salt Pilates instructor in a scheduled class for 5-15 minute segments.
WHAT ARE OBSERVATION HOURS?
You will be required to log 50 observation hours, which means simply observing the classes of experienced instructors. You can attend a class at Salt Pilates (with prior permission) to observe and take notes. We will require you to be specific in logging your hours.
WHAT DOES “SELF‐PRACTICE” MEAN?
“Self-practice” hours refer to the time you spend practicing Pilates by yourself. There is no better way to learn the material than personally practicing it yourself. The training program includes 100 classes for you to complete these hours.
HOW LONG WILL THE CERTIFICATION PROCESS TAKE?
The modules will take place during 6 separate scheduled sessions. You will be required to collect hours during the module process & after the module training concludes. When all hours have been completed and logged, you will return to “test-out.” While we strongly encourage everyone to complete their certification in 6 months, we understand that some of you may have full-time commitments, so the pace is ultimately up to you.
WHAT TYPE OF CERTIFICATION WILL I RECEIVE?
The certification you will receive is a private Pilates certification by Salt Pilates on the Pilates reformer. Please make sure your future goals with the certification will be met. Every studio that hires their instructors has different requirements.
DOES COMPLETING THE SALT PILATES CERTIFICATION MEAN THAT I WILL GET HIRED TO TEACH PILATES AT SALT PILATES?
Hiring is always dependent on shift availability, studio needs, and the best fit of the instructor. Salt Pilates Delray Beach is a new studio that currently has a lot of open growth for those who go through the training process. You have the opportunity to teach as little or as much as you want.
WHERE WILL THE TRAINING SESSIONS BE HELD?
The training will be at the Salt Pilates studio.
WHAT IF I CAN’T MAKE ALL OF THE SESSIONS?
It will be up to you to cover the missed material with an instructor or another trainee.
WHAT IS THE BRIDGE CERTIFICATION FOR?
Salt Pilates works to develop a unified approach to teaching Pilates. It invests in the development of its instructors to ensure that our clients receive a strong, consistent product across all classes & instructors. Instructors are taught the Salt Pilates Method, which aims for fluid choreography that builds in intensity to deliver a deep burn to strengthen the client's entire body. The bridge training program is for instructors who are already Pilates certified but need to develop a teaching method similar to Salt Pilates. Most certified instructors fall into this category. We want to make sure our instructors are competent in the Salt Pilates method & therefore have a high standard in determining whether their current method of instruction is similar to Salt Pilates.
The bridge program will bypass the anatomy course & require fewer hours in both teaching and observing.
